        A 35-year-old woman riding a scooter was fatally knocked down by a speeding tanker lorry near suburban Thoraipakkam last night, police said.

        Selvi of Alcot Kuppam was proceeding towards Besant Nagar on a two-wheeler along with her son Moorthy (15) when a lorry hit her. Selvi died on the spot. Her son escaped with minor injuries.

        The police who rushed to the spot sent the body for post mortem to Government Royapettah Hospital. A case has been registered and investigation is on.
