CM to inaugurate projects tomorrow

        Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will inaugurate five projects worth Rs 1,554 crore at the 126th year celebration of Chennai Port Trust to be held tomorrow.

        Addressing a press meet here today, Union Shipping Minister T R Baalu said the projects were the second container terminal and super speciality hospital at Chennai Port Trust, and coal, iron ore and liquid terminal berth at Ennore Port Trust would be taken up at Chennai Port.

        On 18 January, Union External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukerjee would inaugurate a seminar on the growth and development of Indian ports. Representatives from 12 countries would participate and 60 papers would be presented at the seminar. On 19 January, Local Administration M K Stalin would inaugurate an exhibition on Port Trust at Lady Wellington Girls Higher Secondary School.

        On the proposed elevated highway connecting Chennai Port from Maduravoyal, he said the people living on the banks of river Cooum would be properly re-settled before taking up the project. And no Central government project would take off without rehabilitating and resettlement schemes for the affected people.

        Asked about the case filed by DMDK chief Vijayakanth's wife Premalatha Vijayakant on Grade Separator work at Koyambedu, he refused to comment on this and added that no one could hinder the developmental works of National Highway Authority of India. In this connection, he referred to the acquisition of SIDCO administrative complex near Guindy during the previous AIADMK regime.
