Tamilnadu government has distributed financial assistance to the tune of Rs 79.28 crore to 2.83 lakh families under various schemes through 13 Welfare Boards for Unorganised Workers.
An official press release said that about 1.72 crore member had been inducted as members on the welfare board in the last 15 months of the DMK government since May 2006.
The release said that with the intention of safeguarding the welfare of unorganised workers, the government had formed welfare boards for different employment of the workers to provide welfare assistance to the workers and the families.
Listing out the achievement of the Welfare Boards, the release said through the Tamilnadu Agricultural Labourers and Farmers Social Security and Welfare Scheme, a sum of Rs 35.36 crore as assistance had been given to 1.04 lakh families out of 71.05 lakh families who had registered under the board.

Workers were also formed for manual workers, autorickshaw and taxi drivers,
tailoring workers, hairdressers, washermen, palm tree workers, handicraft
workers, handlooms and silk weaving workers, footwear and leather goods
manufactory and tannery workers, artists and goldsmiths.
