Chennai, Sept 14:

A three-day electronics fair organised jointly by Taipei World Trade Center Co Ltd (TWTC) and Taiwan Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers Association (TEEMA) got underway at Chennai Trade Centre today.

Called Taitronics India 2007, the State government and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) are the co-sponsors of the trade exhibition.

Formally inaugurated by envoy Andrew Li Yan from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre, the mega event was expected to draw more than 100 industry-exhibitors and 35,000 visitors to the venue.

Taitronics would showcase the latest trend in electronics, IT and communication, machinery, auto parts and machinery tools. Walter M S Yeh, vice president, TWTC, said Taitronics has 32 years of experience in organising exhibitions and conferences.

Chennai was the prime choice of MNCs like Nokia and Foxconn, even as the efforts were on to attract foreign capital in the city, he said. 'Indian government also offers a range of incentives to foreign investors, including tax, rental waivers and fast track approvals and many Taiwan companies have set up operations in India,' he said.

Taiwan's External Trade Development Council known as TAITRA has opened its plush office at Nungambakkam in the city. The core activities of the centre are to disseminate trade news and information to Taiwan enterprises.
