State Minister for Revenue and Housing I Periasami today said SHGs (Self-Help Groups) would be promoted with the help of Asian Development Bank.
Briefing reporters here, the Minister said that of US $49.99million allotted by the ADB in livelihood component, $47.78 million had been spent.
Demanding more assistance under this component, the Minister said that they would discuss the matter with a team from ADB in November 2007 and seek additional funding from them.
Periasami also said the ADB had provided $143.75 million under Tsunami Emergency Assistance Project (TEAP) to carry out the varied rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.
So far, $ 83.26 million had been spent and the remaining amount would be utilised soon, he added.
ADB president Haruhiko Kuroda said the tsunami relief and rehabilitation works being carried out in Tamilnadu with an assistance of the ADB were satisfactory.
'I am immensely pleased with the activities of SHGs and the physically challenged persons in tsunami- hit areas as they had undertaken entrepreneural activities, utilising the assistance provided by the ADB', Kuroda added.
He further said ADB would
extend its full cooperation to the Tamilnadu government to complete the
tsunami rehabilitation projects on time.
