        Two persons travelling in a car were killed and three others received serious injuries when their vehicle collided head-on with a tipper-lorry near Chitlapakkam at the wee hours today.

        Police said industrialist Saleem, 48, who owns many footwear showrooms at Kattumanarkudi has come along with his family to Chitlapakkam to attend his nephew's marriage tomorrow.

        It is said Saleem and his wife Gatheeja Beevi, 40, had gone to Koyambedu market in a car to buy flowers at around 4.45 am today and the couple was accompanied by the driver's wife and his mother-in-law. When they were returning home, the car collided with a tipper-lorry. Both Saleem and his wife died instantly on the spot.

        The driver Shaul Ahmed, his wife Ayisha Banu and his mother-in-law Ayisha Beevi sustained injuries and were rushed to Chromepet Government hospital. The driver of the tipper-lorry had absconded from the scene and police have registered a case.
