No sign boards, no roads and no streetlights is the situation on Anandavinayagar 2nd Street, Ayanavaram.

        The situation on Anandavinayagar 2nd Street at Ayanavaram is in a pitiable situation to say the least, what with the civic problems putting most of the residents to shame.

        To begin with there are no streetlights at all making treading the stretch in the nights a nightmarish experience for the hapless residents of this unfortunate street. 'In the night, people shudder to walk down this street as many time, they trip over the stones for there is no proper road making the lives of passersby miserable, ' said Shanmugha, a long- time resident of the area.

        'It is hard to believe that though the place is situated within the Corporation limits, there is not even a tar road, making motoring chaotic. At times, this leads to a minor skirmish between drivers as the ones in front can't move fast,' said Margaiyya, a government employee residing in the area.

        The street does not even have a signpost to direct the people. 'Even villages of late have not been without a signpost to direct newcomers into the street, ' said Marimuthu, an office assistant working in a private firm.

        And to hammer the last nail in the coffin, the street has a bad drainage system, which has residents fuming.

        'Even in distant villages one can see a modern toilet with proper drainage facility, but here we still depend on outdated techniques which make us feel whether we are staying in some bygone era, ' said Kaushik, a school student.situation on Anandavinayagar 2nd Street, Ayanavaram.
