Be positive, CEC tells students

        Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) T S Krishna-murthy asked students to be positive in their mental outlook and prompt in taking decisions if they wanted to become successful in life.

        Delivering the College Day address at Alpha Arts and Science College at Porur here recently, the former CEC said that there were now plenty of opportunities for students and it was upto them to equip themselves on the personal and professional front.

        Urging the students to inculcate the reading habit, Krishnamurthy also laid emphasis on language and communicative skills as a must for distinguishing themselves in this competitive world.

        'The education of women is necessary for our country's development,' he said, adding that the government should pay more attention on infrastructure, education, health and sanitation.

        He accused politicians of being corrupt and civil servants incompetent. He said they were blocking our country's progress.

        'Why should there be so many hurdles in getting admissions for management and engineering studies,' he asked and demanded that the process should be made easy if they wanted more students enrolling with them.

        He also said that the students had to realise their role in nation building by recognising the importance of truth and tolerance.Later he distributed prizes to students. College principal S Ramaratnam and founder Grace George also spoke on the occasion.
