        Chief Minister M Karunandhi today appealed to the people to take care and protect themselves from contagious diseases like smallpox which is said to be spreading fast in Chennai.

        In an official press release here, Karunanidhi said people should take the government advisory seriously and protect themselves from such diseases. 'Brushing aside superstitious beliefs, they should take necessary precautionary medical aid. Government would also be vigilant and do its duty,' the release added.
