'Police should always keep in touch with the latest scientific development in the matter of detection of crime and tracing of criminals promptly,' said Tamilnadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala.
Inaugurating the 50th All- India Police Duty Meet here yesterday, Barnala said the image of the police officers could be improved by transparency, utility and impartiality without compromising on security He said the police force should develop a good relationship with law- abiding citizens in the State.
The senior police officers should listen to the grievances of junior officers so that the motivation of the entire police force is of the highest order, he said, adding that police should also aspire to understand the changes sweeping society.
'Self-introspection is the best method for self- improvement. So, police should discharge their duty to the best of their conscience with justice and touch of humanism', the Governor added. Police is the coercive arm of the State which is entrusted to perform the basic duty of maintaining law and order. 'To discharge this duty effectively, police have to interact with other wings of criminal justice such as judiciary and prosecution', Barnala further said. Later, the Governor took the salute at an impressive marchpast by the participating teams from different States.
He released a souvenir which was received by the Director General of Police D Mukherjee.
