A delightful drill

        Trainees at two units of Air Force Station at Tambaram performed a flawless display of their drill formations yesterday during a competition held as part of Platinum Jubilee celebration of IAF.

        Both the cadets at Workshop Training Institute and Mechanical Training Institute competed with each other with a professional display of their talent. The contest is part of a series of events organised by the IAF to celebrate is 75th year of operations.

        Air Officer Commanding 413 at Tambaram Air Force M S Ahluwalia said that to perform a drill with perfection one has to be focused with concentration in the parade which should coincide with their physical movements.

        'To showcase a good rhythm in drill in spite of some mistakes by oversight is possible if our action coincide with the movement of others in a parade,' he said.

        Emphasising that perfect timing was the essential element in the marching process, Ahluwalia said parades would develop relationships between cadets and hence, timing was all the more necessary.

        He complimented the efforts of Air Force trainees for their good performance and gave away prizes to Workshop Training Institute for winning in both the parade and bayonet fighting drills.

        It was for the first time that bayonet drill was held in regular competition. Armed men with a coloured face revealed their individual fighting spirit that drew many applause from a cheering audience.

        As part of the Platinum Jubilee fete, an aerobatics team from IAF would perform in Chennai followed by rallies in the city to bring awareness on the role and achievements of IAF.

        Tambaram unit of IAF had drawn out programmes to educate people on the role of Air Force in the defence preparedness of the country. The unit had adopted an old-age home in Tambaram as part of its social welfare initiative. Roughly 15,000 trainees are passing out from Tambaram Air Force Station each year.
