BJP president L Ganesan at a public
meeting in Chennai yesterday.

State BJP president L Ganesan has said the party will not allow any more statues of rationalist leader Periyar EVR statues in front of temples.

Speaking at a public meeting in Chennai yesterday, the BJP leader said there was no meaning in installing Periyar statues near Hindu shrines and added that the party would not allow Dravidar Kazhagam to erect more such sculptures in front of holy places.

Urging Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to introduce Surya Namaskaram and Yoga in schools, Ganesan said this could pave way for future citizens to lead a healthy life.

In his address, former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said the Centre was not ready to enforce the Supreme Court verdict in giving capital punishment to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru in order to appease the minorities and to get their votes.

Flaying the Union government for its failure to contain the prices of essential commodities, Joshi said there had been a steep increase in prices and unemployment among educated youths.

'Inflation is rising steadily, budgetary deficit is increasing and revenue collection was showing a downward trend. Thousands of farmers had committed suicide as they did not get remunerative price for their produce.'

Stating that the DMK had supported the Bill for not giving reservation to backward classes in minority institutions when it was introduced in Parliament, Joshi said an attempt was being made to divide Hindus.

Others who participated in the meeting were BJP State general secretary Tamilisai Soundarrajan, State vice- president H Raja and advocates wing president Krishnamachari.
