Osmania down Madras for title

        Reigning champion Osmania managed to retain the trophy beating host Madras 3-1 after a long-drawn battle in the final of the all-India inter-University men's tennis tournament at the Loyola College here yesterday.

        Osmania, which had earlier won the South West Zone title, was tested by a resilient Madras. The Madras University Vice-Chancellor, Dr S Ramachandran, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Loyola College principal Albert Muthumalai, was also present. Anna defeated Bangalore 3-0 to take the third spot.

        Results (final): Osmania bt Madras 3-1 (P C Vignesh lost to Fariz 2-6, 0-6; Vishnu Vardhan bt Vijay Sundar Prashanth 4-6, 6-2, 7-6; Vishnu Vardhan & Vignesh bt Vijay Sundar Prashanth & Vikram Aditya Menon 6-3, 6-2; Vignesh bt Vijay Sundar Prashanth 6-4, 2-6, 6-3).

        Third place: Anna bt Bangalore 3-0 (Abhinav bt Tarun Sundar 6-2, 6-2; Vasudevan bt Suraj 6-4, 6-3; Abhinav & Vasudevan bt S Bafna & Tarun Sundar 6-3, 6-4).
