Spreading awareness on diabetes

        World Diabetes Day is celebrated tomorrow worldwide. The theme chosen for this year's campaign by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) is 'Diabetes Care for everyone'. To mark this special occasion, as part of the PACE Diabetes Project, the Dr Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre (DMDSC) & Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), Gopalapuram & Anna Nagar, Chennai will be organizing multiple public programmes.

        They include large scale free diabetes screening camps at various places in Chennai from 6 am at Marina Beach near Gandhi statue and Ice House, Besant Nagar Beach, Jeeva Park (T Nagar), Anna Nagar (Tower park) and Tambaram at Sita Devi Garodia School ground and at Sai Rural Diabetes Centre a unit of Dr Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre at Chunampet (Kanchipuram District).

        Walk to spread awareness about importance of a healthier lifestyle by school children will be held at three places - Marina Beach (Gandhi Statue), Chunampet (a village near Puducherry) by 3 pm and MCC College, Tambaram at 10 am.

        Quiz programme at Indira Eye Institute a unit of Dr Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre is also organised as part of the fete. Yoga demonstration for stress reduction will be performed for the benefit of the public at the Auditorium of the Dr Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre and the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Gopalapuram at 9 am at the Tambaram Centre at 12 noon.

        World Diabetes Day is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Dr Frederick Banting who, along with Dr Charles Best, discovered insulin in 1921, a press release here said.
