        State Local Administration Minister M K Stalin distributed essential commodities to the 78 families whose houses were gutted in a fire mishap at Thomaiyappan Street in Royapettah yesterday.

        The Minister gave away 10 kg rice bag, dhotis, sarees and household utensils to each family at Corporation school in Thomaiyappan Street.

        Earlier, Stalin visited the gutted houses and instructed the concerned officials to provide necessary aids to the affected families.

        Chennai Corporation Mayor M Subramanian and Zonal Committee Chairman M P Anbudurai were also present, a press release said.
