Chennai, Jan 13:

Chennai Corporation Mayor M Subramanian has announced that a new vehicular subway at a cost of Rs 13.50 crore will be constructed at Villivakkam to ease traffic congestion.

Addressing a public grievance meeting at Villivakkam yesterday, Subramanian said the Corporation would undertake works related to various civic amenities at Purasawalkam this year.

He said the constituency would get seven anganwadis at a cost of Rs 60 lakh, and two new parks.

'Two crematoria will be converted into gasifier crematoria, besides repairing and relaying of the roads for about 21 kilometres will be taken up at a cost of Rs 4.24 crore,' the Mayor said.

Subramanian also said that to ensure that there is no flooding during monsoon, new storm water drains would be laid at a cost of Rs 2 crore and added that all these works would be inaugurated by the State Local Administration Minister M K Stalin shortly.

Reacting to the issue of faulty streetlights at Periyar Nagar, the Mayor said that the fault was mainly due to the cheaper electrical chokes and bulbs procured by the Corporation during the previous AIADMK regime and this would be sorted out soon.
