State Khadi Minister K Ramachandran flagged-off five new government transport buses at a function held at Ooty bus stand. Speaking on the occasion, Ramachandran said another 47 buses would be introduced by March, to replace old buses which had served over 10 years. The process would continue until all the old buses are replaced, he said.
The Minister said for Pongal festival the government would distribute around 1.98 lakh free dhotis and sarees in Niligiri district. In co-operative department, 48 workers who were on temporary service for 5 to 25 years would now be regularised by present government, he said.

District Collector S K Misra said the long felt need of the people is now
getting full-filled by new buses. The government has allotted Rs 20 crore
for maintenance of local roads and National Highways has given Rs 48 crores
to relay the damaged roads, he said. Managing director of Coimbatore divisional
transport Jaganathan and MLAs Gopal and Saundra Pandian were among those
participated.
