Give importance to diagnosis: Expert

        Thousands of clinical labs without accreditation posed a health risk to patients in the country.

        Speaking at the fourth annual meet of the Quality Council of India here recently, T Venkatesh, advisor at QCI, said diagnosis was a crucial step in determining the healthcare and medication services in the country. Only accredited and recognised labs having quality controls were favoured by patients and medical practitioners alike, he said.

        'It is important that diagnosis should be taken seriously as individual healthcare and medication are completely dependant on test results,' he said. On the accreditation and registration process for hospitals, National Accreditation Board for Hospital (NABH) deputy director

        B K Rana said utmost priority should be given to the safety and treatment of patients.

        'Not just hospitals, NABH is working towards accrediting blood banks and medical imaging services, dental centres and nursing homes,' he said.

        Apart from essential standards for medical labs to register themselves in India, a uniform procedures should be adopted by hospitals, clinics and labs for diagnosing patients, he said.
