Strengthen policing: IG

        The Police Department is all set to enroll around one lakh youth for community policing in six districts of North Zone which includes Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai. Addressing reporters here recently, Inspector General of Police Radhakrishnan said 'community policing utilises public to detect crime and catch criminals.'

        Around 20,000 volunteers were employed with the village vigilance Committees (VVC) in the North zone and the plans are to increase the strength to 1,00,000, he said.

        'Interested youth between the age group of 18 and 30 can contact the concerned SPs, DSPs and selection would be done after detailed enquiry about the person,' the IG pointed out.

        Further, he assured that the identity of the person involved in community policing will not be revealed at any cost and they would be deployed in night patrol duties, IG said.
