Police duty meet begins tomorrow

Over 1,000 police personnel representing various States will compete with each other to showcase their professional excellence in the 50th All India Police Duty Meet to be held in Chennai between 13 and 18 January.
Announcing this at a press conference here yesterday, DGP D Mukherjee said the meet was held annually to improve the standard of professional excellence in the police force. This year, around 87 policemen from Tamilnadu would participate in the meet.
The police personnel would compete in six categories namely the scientific aids to investigation, computer awareness, police photography, videography, dog squad and anti- sabotage check, he said. In the scientific aids to investigation competition, there are eight events such as forensic science written, fingerprint, medico legal oral, foot print, photography, portrait and observation. The judges of these events are nominated by the Intelligence Bureau, New Delhi.
He further said Tamilnadu had so far hosted four such meets in the years 1954, 1974, 1991 and 2000 and this is the 5th time it was being hosted in Chennai. It is organised by each State in rotation on behalf of the Central Co-ordinating Committee of the All India Sports Control Board.
Individual medals would be awarded to winners for the first, second and third positions in each event, in addition to the winning trophies.
During the meet, a welfare seminar would be organised and the welfare measures for police personnel adopted by the States would be highlighted.
Governor Surjit Singh Barnala
is expected to participate in the inaugural function while Chief Minister
M Karunanidhi would participate in the valedictory function to be held
on 18 January.
