Trying for a change of image from glamdoll, Namitha has bagged a plump role in director Rajeshwar's Malligai Malarae, which is a heroine-centric film with enough scope to parade her talent with her tall presence.
'The movie features me in the role of a protagonist fighting for justice in five different garbs. I am confident that the actress in me will emerge from the varied get ups.'
All the same, Namitha has no aversion to glamour role, having had her fill from the time she made a stormy entry after the Miss Surat title decade back. After playing heroines to senior actors in Tamil cinema, she is now doing films with the younger brigade - Vijay, Ajith and Silambarasan.
The Miss India contestant some years ago has shed considerable weight, looking trim as ever.
She says, 'every actress would aspire to work with big stars like Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith and Vijay. I am fortunate to do a movie with Ajith (Billa) and Vijay (Azhagiya Thamizh Magan) simultaneously. This is a heaven-sent opportunity to ensure my longevity in the industry.'
These are days where the storyline is the prime factor for Namitha to give the nod. 'If the script demands I am game for the glamour roles where I go along with the director's opinion.'
Namitha has no aversion for the two-heroine subjects. 'I have faith in my acting abilities and had left my mark in such themes. When good characters are coming my way there is no reason to feel insecure. You are pumped up only when there is the cut-throat competition. There are some roles tailor-made for me.'
The fitness freak is happy travelling and making new friends. When at home, she finds television the best mode to keep her engaged.
