A two-minute silence was observed in the Assembly following the demise of former Minister and senior Dravidian movement leader P U Shanmugham in the early hours of today.
In his condolence message, Speaker Avudaiappan said the departed leader was elected to the Assembly from Tiruvannamalai constituency from 1957 to 1962, 1971 to 1976 and 1977 to 1980.
He was also elected from Melmalaiyanur constituency from 1985 to 1988 and served as Minister, Speaker said. On behalf of the Assembly, Avudaiappan conveyed a condolence message to Shanmugham's family.
CM condoles Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today condoled the death of Shanmugham.
In a condolence message, Karunanidhi recalled his association with the departed leader.
'A man of staunch principles, Shanmugham was always close to my heart though he had a different opinion of a few political issues,' he said.
Former Union Minister and
senior BJP leader S Thirunavukkarasar also condoled the death of Shanmugham.
