Chennai, Apr 12:
It is one of the those lighter moments at the Assembly when a DMK MLA Sundar today brought to sharp relief the administrative skills of the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi as compared to the abilities of aspiring CM and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin.
Speaking at the demand of grants for the Local Administration Ministry running into second day, Sundar recalled there were times when MLAs could not accept the demands of their Constituency's people as funds have to be sanctioned through debate at the legislature.
But everything changed with
Karunanidhi came to power in 1996 for the fourth time and declared that
under the MLA's Constituency Development Fund allotted to each member the
latter could make announcement on development projects, he said. Now under
the stewardship of Stalin, even an AIDMK MLA has announced projects worth
Rs 5 lakh for his constituency on a public meeting recently. This only
showed how the decision of Karunanidhi more than 10 years ago had greatly
elevated the status of MLAs among their people, Sundar pointed out.
