TCS signs up with NIT Tiruchi

NIT Tiruchi, exchanging a letter of intent for academic cooperation.

        Tata Consultancy Services has signed a letter of intent with the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Tiruchi for academic cooperation.

        Under the agreement, TCS would institute two fellowships — Research Fellowship and Junior Research Fellowship in NIT, Tiruchi, with immediate effect. The TCS Fellowship is designed to facilitate NIT to run a three year Ph D course in mutually acceptable fields. TCS would pay a monthly stipend of Rs 16,000 to each of the students who have taken up the fellowship.

        TCS Junior Research Fellowship is designed for NIT to conduct a 2-year MS programme and the IT major would pay a stipend of Rs 8,000 per month for an enrolled scholar. The company has signed over 45 MoUs and LoIs with academic institutions for intensified cooperation, including IIT-Madras, IIT-Mumbai, IISc - Bangalore, PSG College of Technology and Amrita Institute and NIT Tiruchi.

        As an integral part of TCS' Academic Interface Programme (AIP), these initiatives serve as instruments of facilitation for close industry - institute linkages to serve multidimensional objectives. Ravi Viswanathan, vice-president and head, Chennai Operations, TCS and Professor M Chidambaram, director, NIIT Tiruchi, signed the LoI which was expected to create and promote synergies in research fine-tuned to industry requirements.
