Orthopaedic skills lab at SRMC

        'Teachers must be an inspiration to students. They must help them discover the subject of their interest,' said M S Ananth, director, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), after inaugurating the orthopaedics skills laboratory of Sri Ramachandra University, Porur, yesterday.

        He said that quality education must improve the student's knowledge base and build his or her character. Stressing the importance of developing educational programmes, incorporating the latest technology, he said that education should not be compartmentalised.

        He said that more simulation programmes must be conducted to develop a comprehensive technology enhanced learning programme.

        At the orthopaedics skills laboratory surgeons would be trained in the usage of the recently-purchased 54 instruments. On the completion of the training programme, the candidate will have to participate in a cadaver workshop.

        Sri Ramachandra University chairman and director of Orthopaedics chancellor VR Venkataachalam, vice chancellor S Rangaswami, pro chancellor TK Parthasarathy, HOD of orthopaedics P V Vijayaraghavan were among the others who spoke.
