Nine held in murder case

        Nine lorry drivers were arrested in connection with a murder case yesterday.

        Police said, Saravanan alias 'Bull' Saravanan (26), son of Subramani, a resident of West Tambaram, was hacked to death in Ramesh Nagar Kulathumedu area Sunday night. Saravanan, one of the accused in the auto driver Kumar murder case in 2001, was released from jail four months ago. He working as a driver in a stone quarry. Saravanan was found dead with his body stabbed in as many as 11 places.

        Tambaram police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post mortem. A special team, headed by Tambaram Assistant Commissioner Pandiyan, detained lorry drivers - Kannadasan (29), Kumar (27), Sudhakar (26), Appu alias Appunu (27), Kanniappan (27), Bhuvanu alias Balakrishnan (24), Gokul (24), Kannan (24) and Arul (34).

        On enquiry, it was learnt that these nine persons were friends of the murdered auto driver Kumar and had murdered Saravanan to avenge their friend's death. They were produced before the Tambaram court and remanded to custody.
