        A man was arrested today for attempting to murder his mother.

        According to police, Usha (40), a resident of Chromepet, was living separated from her husband Sethuramakrishnan. Her son, Karthik (21), was working as a painter.

        Karthik, suspecting that his mother had an illicit relationship with someone, bought a knife on Saturday with his weekly wages. He stabbed Usha last night at around 8.00 p.m. She was rushed to the government general hospital. Her condition is still said to be critical.

        On receiving this information, Chitlapakkam police arrested Saravanan.
