EMU services delayed as men play 'spoilsport'

NT Bureau
Chennai, Mar 8:

International Women's Day is being celebrated today to recognise the spirit of womanhood. But call it an irony, women commuters in the EMU service between Tambaram and Chennai Beach found themselves in a spot of bother with men getting into compartments reserved for women this morning.

Train services were affected for some time with Railway officials rushing to the scene at St Thomas Mount and convincing men commuters to leave the compartment reserved for women.

The suburban train which reached St Thomas Mount at around 9 a.m witnessed chaotic scenes with some men sneaking into the compartment reserved for women. Paucity of trains and the peak hour rush were said to be the reasons for the problem.

Following protests by the women commuters, the train was halted and railway officials rushed to the place and ensured that the male passengers got out of the compartment. The train resumed its journey after a delay of 15 minutes.
