In two different temples, devotees were robbed of nine sovereigns of gold jewels. And one woman was arrested in this connection while a dragnet has been spread for others.
According to police, Ravishankar of Kolathur Pattumedu had taken his three- year- old daughter for tonsuring to Vadapalani Murugan temple. As there was a heavy crowd, the child was allowed to play for a while. That was when her one- sovereign chain was stolen. Immediately, the father of the child reported the matter to the policeman on duty and the needle of suspicions fell on a woman in the crowd. On identifying the woman, police arrested her. When she was subjected to checking, she was found with the child's chain. Police said the woman Fathima (40) from Porur used to go to temples to steal gold ornaments from the gullible. Similarly during a kumbabhishekam at T Nagar Muppthamman temple, two women lost eight sovereigns of gold. Pondy Bazaar police are enquiring.
