Sir,
The DMK chief Karunanidhi appears to be losing his sense of proportion, perhaps because of the feeling that he is the monarch of all he surveys, at present. His defence that installation of the statue opposite temples is no worse than having nude idols inside the temples takes the cake.
This recalls to mind a conversation between Akbar and Birbal. Emperor Akbar asked Birbal to do something absurd and then justify the act with a reason more absurd. That evening both were witnessing a play when Birbal's hand touched the royal thigh. Akbar was aghast and asked for an explanation.
Birbal asked for an apology saying that he thought it was the Begum Saheba who was sitting by his side. Karunanidhi's explanation is on par, if not worse.
