Driving unpleasant on these roads

NT Bureau
Chennai, Jan 8:

Most roads at Nanganallur have not been attended to by the Alandur Municipality with very few ones black- topped such as the one where chairman of Alandur Municipality R S Bharthy's residence is located.
BOMBARDED?: College Road,
Nanganallur.
In fact as soon as the local body election was over, those roads were black-topped on a Sunday by the employees who were working overtime. This is the grouse of a resident.

Wholly disagreeing with people like this resident was Bharathy when News Today contacted him to seek his reaction to the widely-held opinion of the public here.

'All the roads have been laid but the rains have wiped them out. They will be relaid and by March all the roads would have got a face-lift.' This was the reaction of the Municipality chairman.

One resident complained that 29th Street, Thillai Ganga Nagar, was not at all laid recently and College Road, Nanganallur, cannot wait up till March. For it is so horrible.

This road is the approach road to Pazhavanthangal subway for MTC buses and other vehicles, as the entry to Nanganallur from the subway via east is one-way. At least, the authorities could do some temporary patch work so that the ride on it is not bumpy.

Why set March as the deadline when the monsoon season is long gone? This is what the tax-payers ask. Quite reasonable is their point of view, one can say.

Similarly, 6th Main Road, Nanganallur, is another example as passage through is nerve-wracking as the entire stretch is peppered with manholes.

If this is the condition of roads in this bustling suburb, can there be any worse ones elsewhere? Do you call these roads?

This explanation, is what you get if you happened to speak with residents in this part of the metropolis.
