Stickler to tradition

        Every item displayed in the All India Craft Fair represents the traditional Indian art. The fair, organised at Alwarpet, Chennai, by a group of artisans, showcases a unique collection of silk paintings of Kishangarh to antique wood items from Jodhpur.

        Over 100 types of handicraft and 25 different handloom products are made available. While certain other incredible range of exhibits are whitewood an exclusive art with minor designs, banjara items from Hyderabad, teracotta items from Kolkata, fulkari, applique' dress, traditional georgette saris and traditional home- made eatables from Rajasthan. A craftsman from Jodhpur said, 'exhibitions of this sort helps artisans like us get together helps us safeguard our traditional handworks, which are slowly diminishing. Not just that it also helps us directly come and sell our articles, so we can enjoy greater amount of profit and know the desires of the customers'.

        A regular visitor of such exhibitions, Aarthi, housewife, said, 'unlike our big shopping malls these exhibitions provide a rare opportunity to admire and select various types of exclusive Indian handicrafts , handloom and textile under one roof in a nominal price'. Price ranging between Rs 15 and Rs one lakh the exhibition- cum- sale was inaugurated by actress Sneha. Exhibition is open till 14 January.
