S Railway plea to commuters

NT Bureau
Chennai, Aug 7:

Southern Railway has appealed to users of its suburban service to desist from any act which causes disruption in travel of rail passengers.

Commuters at Pallavaram station yesterday blocked trains demanding restoration of Pallavaram to Chennai Beach service at 9.30 am which is extended to Chengalpattu.

Prior to 1 July two suburban train services were starting from Pallavaram to Chennai Beach at 9 am and 9.30 am respectively.

In response to the demand for additional service on the Tambaram - Chengalpattu section, a press release said one train was extended up to Chengalpattu. It was also ensured that in place of the extended train, a through train from Chengalpattu to Chennai Beach arrived at Pallavaram at 9.28 am.

In spite of the measures taken by the railway, the hold up of suburban service during peak hours is 'not warranted' since it causes hardship and inconvenience to other commuters, the release said adding that the Railway had already augmented 15 services in peak hours and 77 services in non-peak hours from 9-car to 12-car EMU trains on the Chennai Beach - Tambaram section.
