A fast track court in Virudhachalam has given two death sentences and 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to a 24-year-old serial killer of Ulundurpet, here yesterday.
An official press release said Ramesh of Ulundurpet was involved in 13 cases including, rape, murder and robbery in Virudhachalam area.
The first death sentence was awarded for rape and murder of Thiruvachiammal at Avainankudi on 24 November 2004. The second death sentence was awarded for the rape, murder and robbery of Sivakolunthu at Pennadam.
Separately he was given a 10-year prison term for robbing a woman at Penndam on 28 December 2006.
Though the two murders and rape were committed way back in 2004 and 2006, the FIRs were registered only on 2 February 2007 after his arrest at Kallakurichi when he attempted to rape and rob Kulanchiammal on 27 January 2007.
Interrogation revealed he had been committing crimes since 2004. He has also murdered Palani at Bangalore for a sum of Rs 50,000 in January 2007. His modus operandi had been to attack women who are alone, constrict their neck to make them faint and then commit rape and robbery.
Some of his victims regained consciousness after long hours and six women lost heir lives.
He was arrested earlier for looting six wheelers and was lodged in a prison for six months, from then he became a full-fledged criminal.
A special team of officers headed by Radhakrishnan, IG, North zone including Narayanasamy, Inspector, Panruti Police station, Balasubramanian, DSP, Kallakurichi, Chellamuthu, Sub-Inspector, Kallakurichi, Rajan, DSP, Thittakudi, Verapandian, ADSP, Crime, Villupuram played a significant role in fetching the judgement.

investigating officers.
