Challenges that hospitals face

NT Bureau
Chennai, Aug 7:

It is a challenge for any hospital to not only to function well and make good returns but to maintain their integrity as well, Special Secretary of Health P W C Davidar has said.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new unit of 'Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic diseases and Gastro Intestinal Bleed' at Lifeline Multi-Specialty Hospitals recently, Davidar said, 'It is so important to maintain the balance in a corporate set-up and to offer healthcare to all the strata of society.'

He also highlighted the projects that the government of Tamilnadu along with the World Bank Aid were working on for quality care in the 270 secondary care Government Hospitals.

Dr J S Rajkumar, chairman, Lifeline Hospitals, said, 'For the first time in a private sector, a comprehensive liver and pancreas surgery unit is being launched. The unit will be under the guidance of Dr S Thirunavakkarasu.'

Announcing that the hospital would soon have a liver transplant unit, Rajkumar said, 'Liver diseases were rampant in India, mainly because of hepatitis B and C viruses, accounting for at least 70 million affected Indians, and also due to the increasing percentage of alcoholic livers in our country'.
