A floral route to better friendship with Japan

        ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI, an Indo-Japanese cultural organisation, in association with The Chennai Study Group of Ohara School of Ikebana, organised an exhibition on Ikebana 'Beauty in Nature' at Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai, yesterday.

        The three- day event was formally inaugurated by Akiko Kodaki wife of Yoshiaki Kodaki, Consul General, Consulate General of Japan. In her short speech, she said Ikebana is a system where all citizens of Japan join together as part of witnessing the extraordinary floral arrangements.

        Kusum Chadda, head of The Chennai Study Group of Ohara School of Ikebana, speaking on the occasion, said the school conducts classes for its students and trains them in the art of Ikebana especially for achieving creation of expressions regardless of artistic ability. She adds that even a handful of simple flowers can look sensational if they are displayed stylishly and for that the art of Ikebana shows the path.

        About 85 floral arrangements are displayed at the venue and some of the displayed ones include Volcanic Rock, Sea Shells, Open Containers and Tall Vases. The exhibition is open to public and would be on till 6 January.

        This is the first programme of ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI, Tamilnadu Centre's year- long Japanese cultural events and programmes for year 2007 which has also been declared as Japan-India Friendship Year.
