at the birth anniversary celebrations of Sir Isaac Pitman today. 

        'Following Pitman's system of shorthand has made Indians speak better English than English- speaking people', president of T Nagar Stenographers Guild SV Ramaswamy has said.

        Speaking during the 194th birth anniversary celebrations of Sir Isaac Pitman, inventor of English shorthand, Ramaswamy said stenography was invented to make people speak correct English with better pronunciation. He said there was wide scope for immediate employment to those youngsters completing secretaryship courses.

        Ramaswamy then underlined the importance of journalists knowing shorthand. Insisting on introducing compulsory shorthand education to the students of journalism, Ramaswamy spoke about the role of shorthand in better reporting. A new course on e-Tax Filing was launched in the institute during the celebrations which also saw the unveiling of a portrait of Sir Isaac Pitman.

        Director General of Income Tax (Investigations) Muthuramakrishnan, in his presidential address, appealed to all the students to study the new course on e- learning. He then distributed certificates to students who had completed Newrite shorthand course.

        Branch Manager of Intense Technology Guru Prasad also spoke.
