Villupuram, Jan 4:
PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss today urged the Centre not to go ahead the IIT entrance examination till President A P J Abdul Kalam approves the Bill for 27 per cent reservation to backward class students in the premium institutions of the country.
Speaking to reporters at Thailapuram near here, the PMK leader observed that it was the heads of the IITs who opposed the move of giving reservation to the backward community students even as they were ready to allocate 25 per cent of the seats to foreign candidates.
'They were willing to give it to someone else but not interested in admitting our own students. Without even the President approving the Bill, the announcement for entrance examinations were made with all urgency which should be stopped immediately.'
On the Sri Lankan issue, Ramadoss said the Union government should follow the same approach adopted by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in her time, and added that the Sinhalese government would never come forward to find an amicable solution through dialogues.
The State government should not construct the proposed medical college at Villupuram in cultivable farmlands, the PMK supremo also said Ramadoss urged for a separate Minister and a Director for primary education.
The PMK leader also said
that celebrating new year by drinking and dancing on streets should not
be allowed as it would debase the culture of the land.
