        Poor marks scored in the half-yearly examination coupled with chiding by her parents lowered the spirit of an eighth standard girl student and forced her to commit suicide.

        According to police, a 14-year-old daughter of one Thiagarajan, an auto driver, residing at Washermanpet, poured kerosene over her person and set herself ablaze after her parents reportedly scolded her for having scored less in the examination. On hearing her scream in pain, neighbours took the girl to Government Kilpauk Hospital but she died.

        Korukkupet police have registered a case in this connection and further investigations are on.
