Chennai, Jan 4:
In a move to boost the spirit and morale of the cadre and to give the party a fresh look, AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa has apparently decided to appoint new office bearers (reportedly youngsters and women) to district level positions.
Sources said the general council meeting of the AIADMK would be convened soon once the appointments were made to discuss on various issues including taking the party to the national level.
It may be recalled that while paying respects to the party founder M G Ramachandran at his memorial on his death anniversary a couple of weeks ago, party members including Jayalalithaa took oath to bring back the AIADMK to power in Tamilnadu and to form a third front as an alternative to the UPA government.
'Though the party had lost in the Assembly elections and the recently concluded civic polls, AIADMK has got an unprecedented number of 61 MLAs which no opposition party had managed in the history of the State.
Having in mind the support given to the AIADMK by the public and the need for a third alternative front in the Centre, Jayalalithaa has decided to strengthen the party by appointing those who worked hard for the victory in the elections, especially youngsters,' said a source at the party headquarters.
Citing the examples of the reshuffle of positions in the districts of North Chennai, South Chennai, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli and the appointments of former Minister Valarmathi and party MP T T V Dinakaran to State level key positions, the source added that the general secretary was all set to reshuffle the office bearers in remaining districts too.
He also said Jayalalilthaa was in a mood to appoint youngsters and women to the positions, as she felt that they would perform the given task in an efficient way.
It is also said that a new presidium chairman would be appointed before the general council meeting in the place of Kalimuthu, who passed away recently.
So, Tamilnadu politics is
all set to witness interesting twists in coming days, one can say.
