Not a good way to celebrate

        Sir,

It is very unfortunate that in India, birthdays of so-called political bigwigs put our common man on the street, waiting under the hot sun for hours together. On 1 March, the birthday of Local Administration Minister M K Stalin was celebrated with gusto. No qualms.

He is the son of Kalaignar and perhaps the future political heir also. But traffic on Adyar bridge was thrown out of gear for over an hour. Motorists were left to wait under the hot Sun to celebarate the rising Sun's birthday. During Kalaignar's birthday, no such pomp and show was witnessed.

Let us first put out this culture of celebrations at the cost of public. We never seem to be evolving in such matters in our country. Perhaps MGR was by all means the most popular Chief Ministers and he never indulged in such activities. God save Tamils!

        S Venugopalan, Vananthurai.
