In one of the biggest haul ever, Chennai Central Crime Branch (CCB) personnel seized Rs 28 lakh worth of pirated VCDs and DVDs of several Tamil movies, and arrested seven persons in this connection.
Speaking to reporters here today, Assistant Commissioner Dharmaraj said, 'Acting a tip- off that pirated VCDs and DVDs were circulated at Burma Bazaar and Vadapalani, four special teams were formed to crack down on the sale'.
During the crackdown, the teams seized 5,500 VCDs and DVDs of Tamil movies Paruthi Veeran, Deepavali and Veyil among others.
The team also confiscated DVD recording machine and arrested one Balamurugan (27) of Vyasarpadi, Elangovan (24) of Vadapalani, Arif Khan (21) and Aneefa (31), Rehman (32) of Saidapet, Munniyandi (41) of Sastri Nagar and Arulraj (22) of Patel Nagar.
The arrested persons would be produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Monday.
It was only yesterday, the
police received a complaint from actor Sivakumar's son Karthi that pirated
copies of VCDs and DVDs of his new film Paruthiveeran were being sold in
various parts of the city.
