STOP the menace of mosquitoes

Er Krishnamurthy Sekar, director, Defence R & D Establishment, DRDO, Ministry
of Defence, launching mosquito repellant spray STOP in Chennai.

        Mosquito repellent spray 'STOP' was launched by Er Krishnamurthy Sekar from the Ministry of Defence, government of India, at a function held in Chennai recently.

        STOP is based on a pharma product called Diethyl Phenyl Acetamide and developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

        Speaking on this occasion, Krishnamurthy Sekar said that earlier, a mosquito repellent in liquid form was developed and given to the Indian army. But the army had rejected it as that was sticky on the skin.

        Later, DRDO undertook a research and the present mosquito repellent spray came into existence to help soldiers battle mosquitos.

        He further said the technology of STOP was transferred to Sree Ramcides Chemicals Pvt Ltd in order to make it available to society at large. Dr C Kandasamy, general manager, International Business & Public Health Division, Sree Ramcides Chemicals Pvt Ltd, was also present on the occasion.
