        Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi's memory is short. What happened during the Corporation elections? The entire media exposed the booth-capturing and bogus voting, by the DMK.

        The matter went to Madras High Court and one of the judges passed stricutures against the State Election Commission for the sordid conduct of elections. At that time, the same Karunanidhi defended the election panel. He commented that the press is against the SEC, because he happened to belong to the MBC.

        Now after winning the Assembly by-election in Madurai West, Karunanidhi is criticising the Election Commission, because, the Chief Election Commissioner, N Gopalswamy, is a Brahmin. Long live secularism.

        While the past history of Pratibha Patil and her family being unearthed by the media reveals not merely her lack of probity in public life but a positive punishable criminal background, her present equivocal utterances create doubts about her sobriety and even sanity.

        If the impending disaster of her getting elected materialises, one can be sure that she is not going to be used just as a rubber stamp like her predecessors.

        One need not be surprised if Quottrochchi and Afzal Guru are conferred Bharat Ratna in the coming Republic Day!
