Chennai, July 3:
Three fishermen allegedly trespassed into a pilot ship creating panic amongst the security personnel at USS Nimitz, the first n-powered foreign naval vessel to anchor about three nautical miles off the Chennai port.
The Q-branch police have detained the trio for questioning. A high security is being maintained at the ship following stiff opposition from Left parties and other organisations.
Meanwhile yesterday, three fishermen identified as one Kannan (33) Bhaskar (35) of Kasimedu and Ramesh (32) of Power Kuppam in an inebriated condition intruded into the pilot ship Zone . Noticing them, the captain immediately alerted the Coast Guard. But the fishermen who plunged into the sea to escape from the clutches of the officials were caught.
Interrogations with them revealed that they entered the ship to free their fishing net which got struck in the Zone ship while fishing.
A case has been registered
on the three fishermen for trespassing into the ship. However investigations
are on to find out whether they tried to enter Nimitz. Following the incident,
the security has been stepped up.
