        One person was taken into custody for attacking his wife with a sickle as she refused to quit her mother's house at Maanamathi and live with him due to frequent quarrels.

        Ezhumalai, a resident of Lloyds Road in Chennai, got married to Kalaiarasi a year ago. But it was alleged that he used to harass his wife regularly for more dowry from her house at Maanamathi near here. Unable to put up with constant abuse from husband, Kalaiarasi lodged a complaint at All-Women Police station in the city.

        Hearing the complaint against him by his wife, Ezhumalai got angry and went to his in-law's house at Maanamathi where his wife had been staying for sometime. Enraged over his wife's refusal of his pleas for reunion, Ezhumalai struck her with a hidden sickle. Kalaiarasi sustained injuries on her hand and neck, and her mother who tried to intervene also received cut-injuries.

        Kalaiarasi lodged a complaint at Maanamathi Police station against her husband for barging into the house and attacking the family members yesterday. Following this, Ezhumalai was arrested and further investigation is on.
