Chennai, Jan 3:
The splinter group of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) headed by L Ganesan and Senji Ramachandran would soon be a part of the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) in the State.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in a release here yesterday said, 'MDMK has split into two. Chances are that one more party may be admitted into the alliance in the State.'
The Chief Minister also dismissed the claims of some that the 'DMK was behind the split bid' and stressed Ganesan and Ramachandran had exhibited at Salem that 'they had come out of the party they founded with 400 general council members.'
The DMK chief also said even before the split, many office bearers of the MDMK at various levels had quit the party and embraced the parent party, the DMK.
The Chief Minister also said in keeping with an announcement of the party general secretary K Anbazhagan, a membership drive would be launched on 18 January which would continue till 17 April.
'The initiative is to strengthen
the party to continue to fight for a equal society in keeping with the
ideals of Periyar and Aringnar Anna,' Karunanidhi said.
