Papanasam Sivan award for violinist

        Papanasam Sivan Award was presented to M Chandrasekaran, senior violin vidwan, by Papanasam Sivan Karnataka Sangeetha Sabha, Madipakkam, at its 17th Music Festival - 2007 yesterday at Sree Sath Sanga Sankara Hall in suburban Madipakkam.

        Srirangam Srimath Andavan Swamigal Sri Rangantha Ramanuja Maha Desikan inaugurated the festival. Speaking on the occasion, he said, 'our treasure of music has to be preserved.' And he eulogised legendary Papanasam Sivan who had laid a path for his followers to walk on, through his lyrics.

        Former Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission, T N Seshan presented the Papanasam Sivan award, a citation and a cash award of Rs 5,000 to Chandrasekaran. He said the award in the name of the renowned lyricist had gained credence as it goes to an accomplished violist with a great musical talent.

        Among others who felicitated the musician were founder of the sabha Mannai S Ramachandran, sabha general secretary A V Seshadri, sabha president N Thyagarajan and sabha secretary Ramesh Raghavan.
