Tamilnadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today said that people should wear khadi and khader items and this should be made as a mass movement. Inaugurating Khadi special rebate sales at Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan here, he said khadi and village industries should come out with constructive and effective plans to increase their sales. This can be done by increasing and improving the quality coming out with attractive designs and by effective marketing, he said.
Hailing Mahatma Gandhi as an embodiment of truth and love, Governor called for 'greater remembering of his principles which stand even today as a great symbol for the spirit of India'. He said Gandhiji visualised a free India based on the dignity of the individual and ensured the concept of social justice.
The Governor said Gandhi
was pragmatic. He started the Swadheshi movement and adopted khadi, hand
spinning and chakra to create work for the starving millions. They stood
as a symbol of self-help and self-reliance. Gandhiji felt that khadi and
village industries were the only remedy to avoid famine and poverty, he
