        The DMK leaders led by the party's territorial convenor R Janakiraman today commenced a day- long fast demanding early completion of Sethu Samudram Shipping Canal Project.

        The DMK and its allies staged a fast near Venkatasubba Reddiyar Statue. Interestingly, the prominent ally of the DMK, the Congress, did not take part in the fast. Buses plied normally and shops were opened.

        At the fast, DMK MLAs Sivakumar, Siva, Nandha, PMK MP Ramadoss, MLAs Anantharaman, Arun Murugan and Pannerselvam took part.

        Members of the Communist parties and DPI cadres also attended the fast.
